LICHTER Art Award
For the first time, the 2011 video art section of LICHTER Filmtage Frankfurt/Rhein-Main will feature the LICHTER ART AWARD calling for submissions of audiovisual works of all genres, which bear reference to the Rhine-Main Region:
The people, goods and data streaming through the Rhine-Main Region every day leave traces all across the globe. Through the medium of video they can be tracked – with different artistic approaches – as biographic, political, economic or cultural testimonials of the region in the world.
This competition is primarily but not exclusively addressed to artists, who are linked to the region, be it because they live or work here, that they live in one of the partner cities or regions of the Rhine-Main Region (e.g. Birmingham, Budapest, Dubai, Granada / Nicaragua, Guanzhou (Kanton) / China, Kairo, Krakau, Leipzig, Lyon, Mailand, Tel Aviv – Yafo, Toronto), or are or have been students of a partner university.
The winner artist will be invited to the festival and will receive the LICHTER ART AWARD which is endowed with a 1.000 Euros prize. The film or video works – as projected loop or room installation – will be presented throughout the festival period in the immediate vicinity of the festival centre.
The concept proposal must arrive by January 8, 2011. Check terms & conditions for participation.
2010 Vimeo Awards
Mein Lieblingsvideoportal hat soeben die Gewinner des 2010 Vimeo Awards bekanntgegeben. Die zehn Erstplatzierten sind hier zusammengefasst. Gekürt wurden Best Video, Motion Graphics, Experimental, Music Video, Captured, Remix, Narrative, Original Series, Documentary und Animation. Alle Videos, soweit vorhanden, natürlich im HD-Format. Kann mal jemand den Couch Mode ausprobieren: »We know that you already like Vimeo, but what about couches? TVs? Wouldn’t it be great to watch Vimeo from your couch… on your TV?«. Zukunftsfähige Idee, was sag ich, die Zukunft!
Speed Over Maestro
Der Schweizer Künstler Roman Blumenthal bezieht seine Inspiration für gewöhnlich, aber nicht ausschließlich aus dem umfangreichen Möbelkatalog des Billiganbieters Conforama, der seine Einrichtingssartikel mit so geschmeidigen Namen wie Arosa, Exit, Pepper, Monsun, Spirantic, First Weiss oder Circus versieht. Seine Installation »Speed Over Maestro« kommt sehr luftig rüber. Bezug aus witterungsbestängigem Syntex-Gewebe, womöglich irgendwas zwischen 74% Polyvinylchlorid + 26% Polyester, ein bißchen Klappstuhl, Schlafsessel oder Campingstuhl, drumherum Gardine auf Staffelei. Fertig. »So schön wohnen, so günstig« heißt es.

Shit Robot – From The Cradle To The Rave
Ein Feature des Albums ist Ian Svenonious von The Make-Up. Alleine dafür gebührt ihm meine Hochachtung. »FTCTTR« hat ordenlich Schmackes, eine richtige Shit Robot Party.
Die Klospülung
Bei Tutenchamun ging es mir noch so, dass ich es kaum ausgehalten habe. Tinnitus, frieren und zittern, zeitweise hat’s mir sogar die Luft abgedreht. Klar, irgendwie spürt man, dass das State of the Art ist und dass die Trashmesslatte kaum höher gelegt werden kann. Aber trotzdem, ging halt nicht. »Die Klospülung« ist da anders. Natürlich, wo HGich.T drauf steht ist auch HGich.T drin. Aber irgendwie ist die Nummer besser für die Atemwege. Achtung! Nicht mit Musik verwechseln.

Der Cowboy Woody
Dass Woody zu den Guten gehört, glaubt etwa die halbe Weltbevölkerung. Jetzt sind Bilder ans Tageslicht gekommen, die das Gegenteil beweisen. Woody is not your friend!
