Aus Acta wird Ipred

Inzwischen sollte jeder den Inhalt des Urheberrechtsabkommens Acta studiert haben. Vor allem aber die Herrschaften aus der Politik. Vom Tisch ist die Sache dadurch noch lange nicht, geht es in der aktuellen Debatte doch vor allem um eins: Vertuschen und Verharmlosen. Denn: Acta ist erst der Anfang. Laut Heribert Prantl von der Süddeutschen ist das Gesetz nur die Lokomotive, die später mal die Waggons mit dem Gefahrgut ziehen soll: »Die EU-Kommission will sich vom EU-Gerichtshof eine TÜV-Plakette für die Lok und grünes Licht für den gesamten Zug geben lasen.«

»On a stretch of 2 kilometers, seven inner city situations will be doubled on Potsdamer Straße, which was once representational for the city of Berlin and is today used very heterogeneously. On selected points of the whole street, “doubles” will appear at an interval of 70 cm from the existing objects, as if a tracing-paper duplication of a map of the city had slipped a bit away from the original beneath it. Skeleton Coast

By the 1980s, the island of Margarita in Venezuela transfigured its landscape with a number of unfinished construction projects. Lots of them have become part of daily life. Alexander Apóstol has documented the effects in his slightly weird series »Skeleton Coast«.

A Natural History

Ambrotype photography by Noah Doely. About the work: »Noah Doely is an artist currently based in San Diego finishing up his MFA at UCSD. His recent body of work titled »A Natural History« constructs fictional narratives derived from prominent figures such as Charles Darwin and their research around life sciences. Beginning first by carefully crafting scenes that the artists constructs himself, Doely then uses the ambrotype photographic process with a wet collodion plate to capture an image that feels as old as the subject matter he investigates.«

Network Awesome

Laut YouTube wird pro Tag Videomaterial mit einer Gesamtlänge von fast acht Jahren hochgeladen. Alle erdenklichen Testberichte zu Mobiltelefonen sind dort ebenso zu finden wie die erste Filmaufnahme von Louis Le Prince aus dem Jahr 1888 oder Stricktipps von Biathlonweltmeisterin Magdalena Neuner. Alleine der Suchbegriff »Legoanimation« ergibt 23.000 Treffer, zu »Dressurreiten« finden sich immerhin noch 2.170 Filmclips (davon zahlreiche Dressurreitklassiker). Überforderung auf höchstem Niveau. Vorsortierer gibt es deshalb viele, typischerweise wird Blogs diese Rolle zugewiesen und in manchen Kreisen gilt es geradezu als schick, Programminhalte zusammenzustellen. Früher musste man sich für das Geschmacksstatement auf Mixtapes beschränken, heute kann das schon mal eine YouTube-Compilation sein – der eigene Channel, die eigene Playlist, der passende Verweis. Das Leben ist eine Referenzhölle geworden, aber das wissen wir ja alle…

WE ARE CURATORS, NOT COLLECTORS

Bei dieser Überlegung stellt sich häufiger denn je die Frage: Auf welches Geschmackurteil kann ich mich verlassen? Eine gute Sortierung findet sich beim Online-Kanal Network Awesome. Die Idee dahinter ist einfach, naheliegend und sicher nicht neu: NA ist Fernsehen im Internet, ein YouTube-Filter der besonderen Art, von Menschenhand geschaffen, mit täglich wechselnden Shows und nie mehr als sechs Clips pro Folge. Anspruchsvoll und ambitioniert, historisch wie aktuell und häufig einem Thema zugewandt. Die Spex umschreibt es treffend: »Neben Themensendungen wie etwa über die besten Live-Musikauftritte in der Sesamstraße hat Network Awesome etwa auch experimentelle Kunstvideos, Musikvideo-Kompilationen, Cartoons oder trashige Untergrundfilme im Angebot«. Oder um es in den Worten des Gründers auszudrücken: »Broadcast TV has changed for the worse and isn’t getting any better – we offer something different. We mine the vast resources of YouTube to bring you treasures vast and plentiful, packaged and gift-wrapped in an easy-to-watch format. Unlike regular TV, this will not melt your brain.
