Military field rations of the world
As Napoleon once said, an army marches on its stomach. So what do different countries feed their troops? How does the field ration look like? And does it have any effects in warfare? Most armies in the world today now field some form of pre-packaged combat ration, suitably tailored to meet national or ethnic tastes. As you can imagine, it does not guarantee total satisfaction, but it fills up quickly at busy times. (via)
Germany – Contents: Liver-sausage spread and rye bread, goulash with potatoes, sour cherry and apricot jams, sachets of grapefruit, exotic juice powder, biscotti.
United Kingdom – Contents: Chicken tikka masala, vegetarian pasta, pork and beans, trail mix, coffee, tea, a mini bottle of Tabasco, an apple fruit pocket, packets of Polos.
USA – Contents: Pasta with vegetables in spicy tomato sauce, almond poppy seed pound cake, cranberries, spiced apple cider, peanut butter and crackers.
Spain – Contents: Green beans with ham, squid in vegetable oil, pate, powdered vegetable soup, crackers, peaches in syrup.
Estonia – Contents: Liver sausage with potatoes, stuffed peppers, chicken-meat pâté, smoked sprats, crispbreads, halva with vanilla, muesli with fruit pocket and honey.
