To promote Creative Commons licensed music and the musicians behind it, Musikpiraten e.V. launches this year once again the Free! Music! Contest.
Until the end of July, musicians and bands who are releasing their music under a Creative Commons license, can register for the contest. Until August 22th there will be an additional remix-phase: the participating artists are invited to submit single stems or acapellas in addition to the individual songs. By submitting individual tracks or the submission of music videos, the chance to be added onto the sampler that will be a result of the contest, will be increased – if only just a little bit.

A panel of music bloggers, artists and netlabel enthusiasts then decides who will be promoted on the Free! Music! Sampler 2010. It will be made available as a free download and also be pressed on CD. The highlight of the Free! Music! Contest will be on October second: a party at the Wiesbaden Kreativfabrik.

In this month again not a regular show: instead of it I give you the fifth volume of our Aqual(o)unge series where I collect aquatic sounds all around from the netlabel world. And for the first time I would really call this a “mix” – meaning that this thing is more than only the sum of its parts.

While the Aqual(o)unges vol. 1 to 4 were more located in the deep blue sea, we’re now going to the surface for a voyage of discovery to strange island and lagoons. I hope you have the same fun taking the trip as me doing it.

Diesmal geht es um Tom Carter, der unter mindestens zwei Projektnamen firmiert (das sind jedenfalls die beiden, die ich kenne), einmal als March Rosetta und in der etwas folkigeren Variante als Menhirs of Er Grah. Soweit ich weiß, lebt Tom in London und auch zeitweise wohl in Berlin.

Beides kommt mit einer recht umfangreichen Discographie daher (siehe jeweils die oben verlinkten Myspace-Seiten), ich werde daher nur einige ausgewählte Alben angeben, wieder mit je einem Beispielsong (um auf die Releaseseiten selbst zu kommen, einfach aufs Cover klicken)

#37cc – eine Woche freie Musik

Sieben Tage, sieben Nächte, sieben Bands – 37cc, so lautet das Motto der ersten Free! Music! Week vom 8.3.2010 bis zum 14.3.2010. Das Konzept ist simpel: Jeder, der daran teilnehmen möchte, präsentiert jeden Tag eine Band, die ihre Musik unter einer Creative Commons-Lizenz veröffentlicht. Damit auch der Rest der Welt etwas davon mitbekommt, werden die Beitäge per Twitter und identi.ca mit dem Hashtag #37cc verbreitet und zusätzlich per Trackback oder Pingback auf musik.klarmachen-zum-aendern.de eingetragen.

Leichte Irritation löst bei mir zwar der Begriff “Band” aus, da hätte man meines Erachtens lieber Projekt o. ä. wählen können / sollen, weil das mir zu einschränkend klingt, aber egal, wollen wir mal nicht so sein – und uns auch nicht dran halten.

OK, also wird jetzt eine Woche die Machtdose damit gefüllt. Let’s start with:

The Ghost of 3.13

Laut Myspace-Seite stammt der Künstler aus Rumänien. Er veröffentlicht auf Sociopath-Recordings, einem Netlabel in Taiwan, das meistenteils Breakcore herausbringt.

(Mit diesen internationalen Kollaborationen übrigens haben wir schon mal einen der Aspekte, die ich an Netaudio so fabelhaft finde.)

Mit dem Genre kann ich selbst jetzt eher weniger was anfangen, jedoch gibt es bei Sociopath häufiger Veröffentlichungen, bei denen der reine Krach irgendwie mit Melodie in Verbindung gebracht wird. Wie eben bei the Ghost of 3.13, Drum & Bass, hier wird ordentlich gescheppert, aber im Zuge seiner bisher vier veröffentlichten Alben kommt auch die Freude am Klingklang immer deutlicher zum Tragen.

I’ve decided to give a little overview over the last few years and to present some of the tracks which are still one of my favourites. Some true classics I still listen to on a regular basis.
