Justice – Cross

Indierock war gestern, dieser Tage bin ich auf Popmusik. Motto: »This is the summer of POP Experience«. Bestenfalls die Battles (MySpace) mit ihrem präzisen und bisweilen auditiven Verarbeitungsraster mögen da an Gitarre erinnern. File under Helium-Mathrock. Eine gepitchte Mickey-Maus-Stimme trifft auf die Erbengemeinschaft der Mathrockmeister Shellack oder auch auf Helmet, der ehemaligen Band des Schlagzeugers John Stanier. Mit »Atlas« hat das Quartett sogar einen veritablen Hit, der die Gemüter in Euphorie versetzen dürfte. Bei einer Spielzeit von über sieben Minuten bleibt jedenfalls genug Zeit, den Kopf vom Hals zu nehmen. Soll das Gehirn jung halten! Warp hat mit diesem Signing mal wieder gezeigt, dass man ihnen das Besondere überlassen kann, den Welterneuerern, wenn gar -erfindern.

Die Battles sind klasse, die Helden der Stunde sind allerdings andere. Sie heißen Justice (MySpace) und kommen aus Paris. »Justice?« Wirst du demnächst die Frau beim Bäcker fragen können, und sie wird sagen: »Klar, die DJ- und Produzenten-Weirdos aus Frankreich«. Justice sind auf dem Sprung in die Weltspitze, werden demnächst von Versace und Mercedes gebucht, dürfen in Dubai auflegen und zukünftig DJ-Seminare geben. Kurzum: Die Welt hat zwei neue DJ-Stars. War ja auch mal an der Zeit. Das Hauptaugenmerk liegt dieser Tage jedoch auf dem anstehenden Album-Release und nicht etwa auf ihren berüchtigten DJ-Sets. »â€ « (»Cross«) wird demnächst das Land fluten, Keller unter Wasser setzen und das Technische Hilfswerk auf den Plan rufen. Wieder mal so ein Bouncer-Album, das Bäume verbiegt. Gaspard Augæ und Xavier de Rosnay sind Hüpfburgenbauer, die dir einen Tritt in den Arsch verpassen. Übergewicht gilt hier nicht, die Beats sind zwar fett, aber gut zu verdauen. »â€ « ist so französisch wie French House, lebt jedoch von den Produktionsmoden und -methoden der Gegenwart. Max Dax nennt ihren Stil in der aktuellen Spex »durchgeknallte Hooligan-Elektronika«, der Begriff »Neo-Daft-Punk« macht andernorts die Runde. Alles zittert, bratzt und bangt auf P.A.R.T.Y. wie ein Glockenhund auf Ecstasy. Bewegungslahm war gestern. Mach Parat Mixtapes

Wow! Und nochmal wow! Grad irgendwie drüber gestolpert, noch mitten am Hören, aber ich schreibs gleich hier rein: unbedingt rüber gehen zu Mach Parat – einer Mixtape-Reihe von iGadget.

Nicht nur haben wir offensichtlich einen ähnlichen Namensgeb-Geschmack, sondern Mixtapes als *öhem, husthust* Phänomen sind ja durchaus immer wieder von Interesse hier. Jedenfalls, dort kommts aus der Tradition des Hiphoppens und meint eben wirkliches Mixen – also: allen nur erdenklichen Wahnsinn zusammen- und ordentlich auf die Kacke hauen. Wenn die restlichen Folgen der Reihe so gut sind, wie die letzte, neunte, namens »How Times Have Changed…«, die ich gerade höre – dann sind sie sehr gut.

Also, nochmals, dringendste Empfehlung: unbedingt rübergehen, runterziehen, anhören, Spaß ohne Grenzen sage ich voraus! (übrigens auch als Podcast abonnierbar).

Unfortunately I’ve had a serious computer crash last week, so I haven’t found the time to produce an episode. Just a few words: I’ve started with the excellent Luisa Mandou Um Beijo from Brasil – a band often associated with Belle & Sebastian, it reminds me also to Chumbawamba and Stereolab. If you follow the link to the netlabel site you will get an excellent album which is in heavy rotation here! I took notice of them through the fabulous compilation Share It Spread It Love It – Vol. 1 by open culture site Metawelle. The second track by the Homens, a nice Sixties-sounding-flick, is directly taken from it.

Also an interesting compilation series is made by Silent Ballet with a focus on post-rock, so is third track by the Bird Ensemble.

We then have a pop section: The Oslo Deadtrash Project has released a three-track ep on Tripostal, which is the netlabel site of the Belgian independent label Carte Postal, „It’s a musical“ is the new supergroup of everybody’s darling Bobby Baby and Robot (Lady Boy). Don’t miss their first concert on July 3rd at Hotel Bar, Berlin! Next one is Lucrecia, also a lovely album on Series Media, second time appearance of this netlabel here at Machtdose after we’ve already played a track of them last month.

Now comes the Lounge part: Tristan Linton has made a remarkable album, realeased on Konkord.org – a complete new netlabel for me from Austria. Don’t miss the album it has a lot of surprises – which is not typical for the „downtempo“ genre. Always a good place for extraordinary music is electrosound.ru, one of the most mentioned labels in the Machtdose Podcast, this time we have something by Re’sequence – and it may sound a bit redundant, but again!: another album worth to listen to all tracks. (In fact this month we REALLY have a bunch of good ep’s, not only single tracks.)

The Sound effect of this month: „Children playing on a backyard“ – you have some kind of it in all of the following three tracks by Gabriel, herzog and Letna – they form the more relaxing part of the tracklist, also the next ones by All about Max, (again: excellent ep!) and Chromatic Flights.

At the end – as always – the more „classic netlabel genre“ which means minimal / technoid sounding tracks: Danzai, Ture Sventon, Marcexl and Francky Ride, then the Profi Bros doin‘ it à la Daft Punk. The list is closed by the tribal house of Yan Ots (celebrating the first anniversary of netlabel diggirama.com).
