In Praise of Unusual Flying Objects

Yesterday’s visions are the ideas of tomorrow. The gallery of unusual flying objects is amazing. And of course: you might spend hours in search of uncommon photography on LIFE.com. Really wow!


1949: Children try to catch toys that were released by a kite.


1948: A „K190“ helicopter attempting a three-point landing atop the heads of three women holding plywood squares as landing „pads“.


1956: Flying platform being tested at an Air Force base.


1959: Ascending gondola trailing disk-shaped radio antenna during lift-off for high-altitude flight to observe the planet Venus.


1957: Test flight of the „strap-on“ helicopter.

Killing Error

For the cover I used a photo by Jens Schott Knudsen [CC BY-NC 2.0]

Probably the episode with the lowest quote of netlabel releases so far and a lot self releases on bandcamp. Musically I think it has a very relaxing atmosphere , some acoustica / folkish songs on start, but the main part is electronic based music – with a wide range of styles.

Errata: the second track is not from the demo album by Thorn & Shout but from their main album released in September 2012.

1923 aka Heaven

1923 aka Heaven is one of two animation loops directed by Max Hattler, inspired by the work of French outsider artist Augustin Lesage. 1923 is based on Lesage’s painting »A symbolic Composition of the Spiritual World« from 1923.

The second loop, 1925 aka Hell, is based on Lesage’s painting »A symbolic Composition of the Spiritual World« from 1925. It lives here.
