»New York Biotopes« by Lena Steinkühler. »New York Biotopes« deals with abstract plants and creatures, which change their forms because of insufficient living space and adapt themselves to the surroundings of the metropolis New York City. A type of metamorphosis, where the newly developed vegetation assimilates elements of the city and makes them useful for their own purposes.
»Miniature Melbourne« by Nathan Kaso. A short tilt-shift time-lapse film featuring the city of Melbourne, Australia. This piece is 10 months in the making and features a range of different events and festivals held in the city throughout the year. Music: »Reflections« by Tom Day.
»Running on Empty« by Ross Ching. For a week, Ross Ching, was up at sunrise, taking pictures of L.A. when the light was right and traffic was light. He spent 15 to 20 hours filming with his Canon and about the same amount of time rendering and editing his footage, including erasing any signs of automotive life.
»Time is of the essence« by André Chocron. Choreographed time-lapse footage brings a cold cityscape to life by transforming a block of residential towers into animated characters that remind the viewer the importance of play. Official music video for Cold Mailman’s »Time is of the essence«.
»The Magnetic Void« by James Miller. Filmmaker James Miller captured the destruction of the British United Shoe Machinery Company in Leicester and decided to throw it in reverse slow motion.
»Run Boy Run« by Yoann Lemoine. Yoann Lemoine published another epic self directed music video for his Woodkid project last june with a little boy headed to battle with some subterranean monsters. The boys destination is a fairy tale tower.
In recent years, outsized billboards have spread the commercial hubs of New York City. Most are replaced after several weeks by others. Like background actors, participants stroll around in front of this super billboards. »Coming Soon« by Natan Dvir is an exploration of our visual relationship with the branded city centers and the commercial environment we live in. Great theater with a fancy backdrop.

In den vergangenen Jahren ist viel in Frankfurt gebaut worden, schön und auf anständigem Niveau, mit HQ aus der Baustoffsammlung, kreativer Architektur, teuer natürlich und für Wohlhabende gemacht, und immer habe ich mich gefragt: Wo bleibt hier eigentlich das Leben, die Gemeinschaft, die Gemütlichkeit? In diesen beeindruckend trostlosen Schluchten, wie sie exemplarisch auf der Sonnemannstraße oder im Europaviertel entstanden sind.
Prof. Dr. Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani hat in seinem Artikel »Kritische Gedanken zur Stadtplanung – Zwischen Programm und Offenheit« für die Neue Zürcher Zeitung ein paar sehr wichtige Gedanken zusammengetragen. Für den Städtebau im Allgemeinen. Auf Frankfurt übertragen heißt das: Das Programm stimmt nicht.
An Atlanta native, Alex Brewer (better known as HENSE) has been working as a visual artist for almost two decades. His free-form paintings and public mural installations are exploding. One of his latest murals, a church in Washington DC, is described as follows: »Hense has recently been painting beautiful abstract non representational paintings for some time, large scale colorful compositions involving texture and intense gestural elements. With a graffiti background and a new contemporary aesthetic Hense is able to effectively transition in scale without losing any of his works potency. Hense completely transforms the church with latex paint creating a monumental installation. Again we see an example of art vs. architecture, where today’s artists are transforming neighborhoods and skylines with murals and paint.« Discover more of it in his News section.
