Jozef Mrva has created a series of masks that adapt the heads and skulls of animals. Using cardboard, the artist carves and cuts the readily available material into expressionistic forms. They are fantastic, especially the one made out of a pizza box.

Summer is coming and it is time to think about the right beachwear. This year the New York Times has been inspired by the Chinese fashion world. There is a trend towards wearing a mask. »With the pursuit of that age-old aesthetic ideal at odds with the fast-growing interest in beachgoing and other outdoor activities, Chinese women have come up with a variety of ways to reconcile the two.« the writer lets us know.

Take a look at these fantastic masks made by the wonderful Bertjan Pot studio, very mystical and more a product of chance: »Although seemingly these masks tell stories, this again started out as a material experiment. I wanted to find out if by stitching a rope together I could make a large flat carpet. Instead of flat, the samples got curvy. When I was about to give up on the carpet, Vladi came up with the idea of shaping the rope into masks. The possibilities are endless, I’m meeting new faces every day.«
