Und in der Tat: Auf was man bei Check the cool wax so alles trifft, kann sich sehen lassen. Neben interessanten Narrations, über die erste Mondlandung beispielsweise, finden sich dort Gesangsaufnahmen von untalentierten Schauspielern, Plattentitel wie »Music To Read James Bond By«, extended Versions von The Cure, eine 7″ namens »The Noisy Eater« von Jerry Lewis usw. usf., dazu exzellent gestaltete Cover in Hülle und Fülle. Sehr crazy.

Alles dabei, was früher geschockt haben mag: Treibende, animalische Musik, große Gesten, Ruch und Sex, archaische Gewalt, ekstatisches Aufbegehren des gemaßregelten Körpers mittels sich abspielender Zuckungen und Windungen. Und dennoch, es war das bravste Konzert, auf dem ich je gewesen bin.

Thomas vom filmtagebuch war bei dieser japanischen Band mit den hübsch verkleideten Teeniefans.

Freaks is a nightmarish collision between normality and abnormality. Cleopatra, a trapeze artist, marries the dwarf Hans for his money, planning to poisin him with the aid of her stongman lover Hercules. The vengeful circus freaks, who catch onto the pair’s scheme, band together to enact a horrible revenge upon them, forming the film’s powerful denouement.
