I have nearly nothing to say to this month episode, just: it’s full of Harps & Trumpets, a Scotsman is swearing on Italopop, we have Jazz, maybe some kind of a Koto (Japanese zither) and maybe this on drugs and there’s even more, but I’m just to lazy to talk about… As every month I just hope you have fun with it. Edit: I just see that I’ve made one mistake in this episode, not really a mistake, but I want to correct: although the one netlabel has a .ca domain, it’s based in Louisville, Kentucky, USA.

Calvin Harris – I Created Disco

Mit 23 Jahren und einer Kindheit in Dumfries, Schottland, waren es wohl mehr die 80er-Jahre-Partys in den 90er Jahren, die Calvin Harris seinen zauberhaften Sound bescherten, damals in der Dorfdisko. Vielleicht war es auch einfach nur die Plattensammlung seiner Eltern, die ihm den letzten Schliff verpasste. Das schöne Zusammenspiel von Amiga Computer und Harris` Singsang lässt jedenfalls keine Zweifel daran, dass sein Debüt-Album »I Created Disco« der Beginn einer wunderbaren Freundschaft ist. Sein Label in UK hat eine Listening Session eingerichtet, die euch diese seine Musik ein wenig näher bringt. Anspieltipps: Colours, Neon Rocks, Certified (oder einfach durchlaufen lassen)


Calvin Harris on MySpace

Mit 0p war die Produktion des Albums nicht gerade teuer: »Calvin Harris’s debut album, with the subtle title »I Created Disco«, cost 0p to record. He fashions future-disko using an ancient Amiga computer and is, right now, (literally) knocking together a stonking live set using MDF and 204 samples.«
